“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.”

~Andre Gide

Hello, and welcome to my blog! My name is Sarah Pavan. I am a Canadian professional indoor volleyball player, and beach volleyball Olympian. I have been playing volleyball for over 20 years, and have been representing Canada internationally since 2001. I started my professional career in 2008, and have had the opportunity to play in some of the best leagues in the world, including Italy, Brazil, Korea, and China. I started playing beach volleyball in 2013 with the goal of representing my country in the Olympics, and in 2016, finished 5th at the Rio Olympic Games.

Being a pro volleyball player means that I am always moving, either living overseas for my indoor season, or travelling the world for my beach season. This means that I am often unable to connect face-to-face with younger athletes as much as I would like to (and I really love that part of my job :)).

So….. that’s why I came up with the idea of starting this blog! Blogging will give me an outlet to share some of the many lessons and experiences that I have gathered from spending so many years in the sport. As far as volleyball goes, I have done it all, from the youth level all the way to the Olympic stage, and I feel like I can offer a unique perspective into what it means to be a female athlete today.

Posts will vary, from stories and things I’ve learned during my life in sport, to snapshots of my daily life, and what it looks like to be a professional athlete. They will include the good, the bad, and the ugly- not just the highlights that everyone posts on their Instagram feeds. I think it’s important to be real and honest, and I hope this can be a resource for athletes, parents, coaches, etc.

Now, it’s time to take the plunge. Thanks for being a part of this journey with me!

xo, Sarah
